Laptop Battery Warranty Coverage
Understand what may be covered under a laptop battery warranty, how manufacturing defects are evaluated, and which conditions may fall outside warranty coverage.
Understanding Laptop Battery Warranty Coverage
Laptop batteries are rechargeable consumable products, and warranty coverage generally applies to qualifying manufacturing defects rather than normal capacity reduction caused by everyday use.
The purpose of warranty coverage is to provide protection against eligible product defects during the applicable warranty period, subject to the terms and conditions of the product warranty.
Where required, a returned battery may undergo technical inspection before a warranty claim is approved.
What May Be Covered Under Warranty?
Subject to the applicable product warranty terms and technical inspection, warranty coverage may generally apply to manufacturing defects such as the following:
Failure to Charge
A battery that fails to charge because of a suspected manufacturing defect may be considered for warranty evaluation.
Internal Cell Failure
Failure of internal battery cells that is determined to be a manufacturing-related defect may qualify for warranty coverage.
Protection Circuit Failure
A failure of the battery protection circuitry caused by a manufacturing defect may be evaluated under warranty.
Internal Component Defect
Manufacturing defects affecting internal battery components may be considered for warranty coverage following inspection.
Product Supplied Incorrectly
If an incorrect battery is supplied because of a packing or fulfilment error, contact PCTECH Computers for assistance.
Other Manufacturing Defects
Other suspected manufacturing defects may be evaluated according to the applicable product warranty terms and inspection findings.
Normal Battery Wear and Capacity Reduction
Lithium-ion Batteries Are Consumable Products
Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries naturally lose capacity over time. Battery capacity can gradually decrease as the battery experiences charging cycles, usage, age, temperature exposure, and other environmental conditions.
A reduction in battery capacity resulting from normal usage is generally considered normal wear and does not by itself indicate a manufacturing defect.
For this reason, a battery that continues to operate but has gradually reduced runtime may not qualify for warranty replacement solely because its capacity has decreased through normal use.
Conditions Generally Not Covered
The following conditions may be excluded from warranty coverage. The final determination depends on the applicable warranty terms and, where necessary, technical inspection.
Physical or Accidental Damage
Damage caused by drops, impact, crushing, pressure, or other accidental physical damage may not be covered.
Liquid Damage
Exposure to water, liquid, moisture, or other liquid-related damage may be excluded from warranty coverage.
Burn Marks or Corrosion
Burn marks, corrosion, oxidation, or evidence of overheating caused by external conditions may not be covered.
Improper Installation
Damage resulting from incorrect installation, forced connectors, or improper handling during installation may be excluded.
Incompatible Device
Using a battery with an incompatible laptop or device may result in warranty exclusion.
Tampering or Unauthorized Repair
Opening, modifying, repairing, altering, or tampering with the battery or its internal components may void warranty coverage.
Normal Battery Wear
Normal capacity reduction and reduced runtime resulting from regular battery usage are generally considered wear.
Other Excluded Conditions
Other exclusions may apply according to the specific product warranty terms provided with the battery.
Warranty Eligibility
Valid Purchase
A valid PCTECH Computers invoice or order confirmation may be required to verify warranty eligibility.
Compatible Laptop
The battery should be used in a compatible laptop model for which the battery is intended.
Applicable Warranty Period
The warranty claim must fall within the warranty period specified for the applicable product.
Product Condition
The battery should not show signs of misuse, tampering, physical damage, or other excluded conditions.
Reported Fault
The reported problem should be identifiable and suitable for evaluation under the applicable warranty terms.
Technical Evaluation
Where required, warranty eligibility may be determined after technical inspection of the returned battery.
Technical Inspection
Why May Inspection Be Required?
A battery-related problem can sometimes be caused by the laptop, charger, charging circuit, operating system, battery connector, incorrect installation, or another component.
For this reason, PCTECH Computers may require the battery to be returned for technical inspection before determining whether the reported issue is covered under warranty.
Inspection may include connector examination, voltage testing, charging verification, compatibility testing, physical condition assessment, and evaluation of the internal protection circuitry where appropriate.
What May Be Checked?
Swollen or Damaged Batteries
Important Battery Safety Information
If your battery becomes swollen, physically damaged, unusually hot, or shows another serious sign of failure, stop using it immediately. Switch off the laptop, disconnect the charger, and contact PCTECH Computers for assistance.
Never puncture, crush, dismantle, or attempt to repair a swollen lithium-ion battery.
How to Start a Warranty Claim
If you believe your battery has developed a fault that may qualify for warranty coverage, contact PCTECH Computers Support before returning the product.
Important
Warranty coverage is subject to the specific warranty terms applicable to the product purchased. The information on this page is intended to explain the general warranty coverage framework. For complete terms and conditions, please review the PCTECH Computers Laptop Battery Warranty Policy .
Frequently Asked Questions
Does warranty cover normal battery capacity loss?
Generally, no. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries naturally lose capacity through normal use, charging cycles, and age.
Does a battery that will not charge qualify for warranty?
A battery that fails to charge because of a manufacturing defect may qualify for warranty evaluation, subject to the applicable warranty terms and technical inspection where required.
Is physical damage covered?
Physical or accidental damage is generally excluded from warranty coverage.
Can an incompatible battery be covered?
Warranty coverage may not apply when a battery is used with an incompatible laptop or device.
Can a swollen battery be returned for warranty inspection?
Contact PCTECH Computers Support first. Do not puncture, dismantle, or attempt to repair a swollen battery.
Will every suspected manufacturing defect be automatically approved?
No. Where required, the product may be technically inspected before the warranty claim is approved.
